Arts/Performance Opportunities

Over the years, Sacred Heart Academy
has earned community-wide recognition for its outstanding
music programs which include the award-winning Chamber Singers
and Chamber Orchestra. In 1994, these groups were honored
with an invitation from President Clinton and First Lady,
Hillary Rodham Clinton, to perform a Christmas concert in
the East Room of the White House during the holiday season.
Since that time our music programs have continued to excel
and SHA provides quality instruction and training
for all our music students.
In addition to first-rate music instruction,
our students also have the benefit of practicing and performing
in Clare Music Hall. This newly renovated music hall provides
excellent facilities for music classes, private lessons,
individual practice, ensemble rehearsals, and large group
performances. Numerous concerts and recitals are held throughout the year to showcase the accomplishments
of our music performance students. The Chamber Singers,
Chamber Orchestra, Chorus, String Ensemble, Band, and Flute
Choir, provide the core of our music program while many
soloists and ensembles add to the musical offerings provided
throughout the school year.
Sacred Heart Academy produces a musical
each fall and a dramatic theatrical play every spring. Musical
performances in past years have included Meet Me in St.
Louis, Into the Woods, and The Wiz, while recent theatrical
productions have included Steel Magnolias, Funny Girl, and Stage Door.
In addition to full-length plays and collections of well
known one act plays, the drama club also produces original
single act plays that are written and directed (and of course
performed!) by SHA students.

The Sacred Heart Academy Art Department offers a tremendous
variety of high-quality art classes including classes in
drawing, calligraphy and oil, watercolor, and acrylic painting.
Printing, stoneware pottery (we have our own pottery studio
and 2 modern digital kilns!), and sculpture are also popular classes
and students regularly create incredible masterpieces.
A rotating Student Art Exhibit is continually on display
throughout the main corridors of SHA’s campus featuring
artwork from all the various classes, and a special Senior
Art Show is held each May. The Senior Art Show is hung by
the students and features the finest works submitted by
seniors in all the various mediums. The Senior Art Show
is an incredible opportunity for students to learn the logistics
of designing a real art show, and it allows the SHA community
to celebrate the accomplishments of our outstanding senior
artists.
Sacred Heart Academy offers instruction and performance opportunities to both our novice and experienced dancers through our courses, Introduction to Dance and Dance Ensemble. Students learn and improve upon various styles of dance including ballet, lyrical, jazz, modern, and musical theatre. Students are admitted to Dance Ensemble following an audition and perform at several functions both on and off campus throughout the school year.
