Welcome to Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart,
a private, Catholic, secondary school with a 130 year history of educating young women in the Franciscan tradition. Founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance, our school community is comprised of 77 dedicated and experienced faculty and staff, our student body of approximately 400 unique young women, supportive parents and over 6,000 loyal alumnae. The Academy’s building is an architectural gem which has been impeccably maintained and updated to reflect learning in the 21st century with a state of the art library media center, classrooms equipped with Smartboard technology, and science labs which rival those of many colleges.
At Sacred Heart Academy, or SHA, as the school is popularly known, we provide a learning environment focused on developing the whole young woman—spirit, mind, and body. This holistic educational philosophy, grounded in Franciscan values, is at the center of all we do at Sacred Heart Academy. Our rigorous academic courses are designed to prepare our young women for success in college and beyond. In addition to our core curriculum, our instruction emphasizes the necessary skills for success in our ever-changing world including: inquisitiveness, intellectual openness, problem solving, reasoning, writing and research skills. Our long-standing traditions in the performing and visual arts and music, as well as our strong athletic programs, and varied extra curricular clubs help round out the offerings to our students. Service and leadership are two key concepts within our educational model. Sacred Heart young women give back to the Western New York community through our Footprints Program run by our vibrant Campus Ministry, and our four-year Leadership Studies curriculum, implemented in 2005, which provides support for our developing young leaders.
