Marine Biology Trip to the Bahamas - June 15-22, 2024

 
Mrs. ModicaAmore and Mrs. Whitney are chaperoning a Marine Biology trip to San Salvador, the Bahamas through the Terra-Science and Education Company. We will spend approximately 6 days at the Gerace Research Institute (affiliated with the University of Bahamas) studying coral reefs and coastal ecosystems.

The general purpose of the field course is to give students an introduction to Marine Science and Island Ecology by taking twice daily snorkeling trips as well as exploring the geology, natural history, and culture of San Salvador. No academic credit will be issued for this trip.

 

Typical daily schedule:

  • 7:30 am - Breakfast
  • 8:30 am - Snorkeling or Inland Experience
  • 12:00 pm - Lunch
  • 1:15 pm - Snorkeling or Inland Experience
  • 5:30 pm - Dinner
  • 7:00-9:00 pm - Presentation/Lesson

 

Trip details:
 
The cost of the trip is $3000 which includes round trip airfare, room and board while on the island, and trip health insurance. Meals at the airport are not included. Please note, it is highly recommended that participants purchase separate travel insurance in case of a personal last minute cancellation (due to COVID, family emergency, etc.) as all payments are non-refundable once you sign up.
 
Passports are required and a copy must be provided to Mrs. ModicaAmore by Wednesday, May 1, 2024
 
Students will also be expected to bring a snorkel, mask, fins, dive boots and a dive skin for snorkeling.

A $400 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registering; thereafter, five (5) additional non-refundable payments of $450 each and one (1) additional non-refundable payments of $350 will be pulled from a student's FACTS account monthly, starting in January 2024.
 
There are only 16 spots available for students, and at this time, this trip is only open to juniors and seniors. In order to participate, students must be current with tuition and fees, in good academic standing, have all service hour requirements met and have no serious disciplinary issues.
